How to use it

Enter your weight in kilograms and your height in centimetres. The BMI and its category are displayed immediately.

Formula and method

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². WHO adult categories: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 normal, 25–29.9 overweight, 30 and over obesity.

Worked example

80 kg and 1.80 m: BMI = 80 ÷ (1.80 × 1.80) = 80 ÷ 3.24 = 24.7, which is a normal weight.

Frequently asked questions

What is the BMI formula?

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m). For 70 kg and 1.75 m: 70 ÷ 3.0625 = 22.9.

Is BMI reliable?

It is a simple indicator that does not distinguish muscle from fat and is not suited to children, pregnant women or athletes. Talk to a doctor for a real assessment.
